Michele Davis' Sermon about Finding Guides and "Traces of You": Ep17
Feb 04, 2024 Season 1 Episode 17
Michele Davis & Amy Durham

One of the most amazing gifts I've ever been given is from a junior student of mine, Slater Nalley. He wrote a song called "Traces of You" in memory of Carter Davis and Natalie Henderson. I told my school's chaplain about this, and he invited Slater and me to talk in chapel. Incredibly nervous, I knew I had to push past my nerves to share Slater's song and have a chance to talk about Carter. Speaking in chapel was one of the best days.

I hope you'll join me for this week's podcast. For the school chapel's sermon, I chose 3 verses that are so important to me and my family. In chapel, they were on the screen for students to see. Here are the ones I reference in the sermon:

Readings:

A reading from Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”

A reading from Revelations 21:4: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

A reading from Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

What a treasure to talk about how I keep faith in the middle of such deep grief and how I choose to lean in, to seek joy and light. I'm so grateful to Slater Nalley who played the song in chapel---it was inspiring, beautiful, and a gift that allows our sunshine to live on in music.
