"School days, school days

Dear old Golden Rule days

Reading and writing and 'rithmetic'

...when we were a couple of kids"

Music by Gus Edwards |  Lyrics by Will D. Cobb (1907)

Pictures of kids in new sneakers, blue jeans (even though it's 90), and an awkward "please-take-this-photo-quick, mom"-look. What should be happy moments filled with hope for your child's school year successes and challenges, instead is a day some moms say is THE WORST DAY OF THE YEAR.

For me (Michele), Carter died on what was supposed to be the first day of his senior year. Forevermore, the first days of school are tough, to say the least. And...I'm a teacher, making sure other kids' first days of school are positive and encouraging...again, tough to say the least. How do I survive? What are my strategies?

For Amy, the first days of school are happy memories. How can that be? Do pictures of her friends' children growing up sit heavy? What does she do to survive?

Join us to hear a few ideas for how to navigate these joyful, yet heartbreaking moments as school bells begin to ring.
